Case Study 007: North West Region Health Centres
In February 2020 Allied Lifts were awarded two separate Contracts for the complete refurbishment of a total of five Orona lifts serving four health centres in the North West region of England. Although the start of the sequential programme was delayed until 1st June due to the Coronavirus pandemic and despite the associated on-going restrictions and existing technical issues, we were able to complete all refurbishments by the end of November.
The works were managed by Eric Wright Facilities Management Ltd with the consultancy services of Mottrams Associates Ltd. The four health centres being Yarnspinnners (Nelson), Briercliffe, Alkrington and Platt Bridge (2Nr. lifts)
Working with the named suppliers, Digital Advanced Controls Ltd., the project involved the replacement of the complete control system and drive unit with the car doors of each also lift being replaced with heavy duty GAL Sovereign Premium sets. We also replaced the car and shaft lighting with LED fixtures and upgraded the autodialler system with a GSM server.
Following the successful navigation of Mottrams’ rigorous testing procedures all lifts are currently in operation and under our 12 month call out and maintenance service included in the contracted services.
Each health centre has a 630kg Passenger lift with a Traction Gearless Top Drive (MRL) serving either two or three floors. Platt Bridge also has a 1000kg lift adjacent but separate to the smaller one.
In response to the unprecedented Coronavirus outbreak presented by both a particularly high risk and vulnerable environment we were able to quickly amend and adapt our Construction Phase Plan to ensure that all operatives, visitors and members of staff were suitably protected throughout the works.
